Final Fantasy XI will be seeing an expansion very soon. It's not exactly an
expansion, more like a huge update that is put on a CD. There will be new
cities and areas to visit. Not only that, there will be new classes. Of
course now they will be introducing a new class, the summoner!! Yup they're
gonna put a summoner inside the game now. There will also be new equipment
and armour. There is no price set for this item yet.

Sequel to FF 7? FF remakes to come to North America...
November 8, 2002
With the release off ffxi on 11/7 for pc, the community has settled down
more. Then suddenly square is planning the next step for the final fantasy
series, and this is where the news gets exciting again. Squares next plans
are actually very unexpected. Final fantasies 1 and 2 remakes are coming to
America and sold in a single package near spring 2003. The most unexpected
part was when square decided to mess around with the old classics of ff.
According to the Japanese magazine Famitsu, square is considering about
making a sequel to final fantasy VII. It will obviously be called Final
Fantasy VII-2. This plan may actually come true seeing that square is making
a sequel to ffx also. Square thought this may be an excellent opportunity to
profit since ff7 was one of the best hits and what started the tradition
amazing graphics for the following ff series. I personally think its a bad
idea to tamper with classics and they should stick with their old policy and
make no direct sequels to any final fantasies. Square used to listen to what
the buyers want, but now square is getting too big and seems to think about
money a bit too much. It's not like square is even close to bankrupt, why
make a sequel that sucks to squeeze that extra little bit of cash from the
ff fanatics?

FF XI Benchmarks
November 8, 2002
With the release of ffxi windows version soon, there is not really much news
centering the final fantasy community (excluding spin-offs).

Square has released two programs that even North Americans could download. One is a benchmark program to see how well your computer can handle ff11. It is currently in version 1.0. The second program shows you your computer
statistics so you can see if you meet the requirements for ff11. The second
program is in Japanese so you cannot read it.

http://www.playonline.com/Download/PolSystemInfo.zip
The above is a program that lets you view your system that is released by
square. It is in Japanese so you can't really read the program.

http://www.playonline.com/Download/FFXiBench.zip
Above is the official ff11 benchmark Version 1.0. Run it and view your
score.

Here are the scoring ranges:
Above 4000:
You should have no problem running Final Fantasy XI. Your computer is above
and beyond the requirements.

3000-4000:
Your computer should have little or no lag running Final Fantasy XI. You
meet and exceeded the requirements. This is the category you want to be in
to play ff11.

1500-3000:
You are hanging on to the minimum requirements. Your computer will have lag
but you can still play.

Below 1500:
Your computer is crap. Don't play.

FF X-2 Information...
October 26, 2002
There has been new screenshots of Final Fantasy X-2. This game is just one
of the many planned spin-offs of Final Fantasy X. It looks like square is
going to make yuna sorta laura croftish. She has two sidekicks, but the
story on those two are unknown. The logo is a picture of yuna plus her two
sidekicks. Looks like yuna forgot about tidus and started going out with
other boys :P. (Screenshots/new wallpapers will be on our site soon)

Miscellaneous PS2 Accessories...
October 26, 2002
The link on the bottom of this article is an online order for a virtual
headset for your playstation 2. This is only for Japan and no information on
the American release has been out yet. It costs almost 600 us dollars, that's
some serious dough. When you move your head, the screen also moves and tries to simulate virtual reality. Obviously for a game like final fantasy, it
wouldn't really matter. For first person shooters, this accessory can really
get addictive. If you have the dough to spend on this and a Japanese ps2, then go for it and tell us what you think about it! http://www.jp.playstation.com/product/95/000000006147095.html

Square has held a presentation for the PC version of Final Fantasy XI for
Windows on October 12 2002. The Square President and CEO Youichi Wada and representatives from Intel, nVIDIA, and Dell attended. Dell will sell two
special Final Fantasy XI PC models. Both the PS2 and the Windows versions
will run on the same servers, so they could play together. Youichi Wada is
aiming for 200,000 sold copies of the PC version by the end of the current
year. The PS2 version has sold 170,000 copies to date in Japan. Final Fantasy XI for Windows will be released in Japan on November 7th.

Square is releasing a special card which contains 500 credits to buy online
time for Playonline to play Final Fantasy XI and other Playonline games.
This card is used to promote their Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Only 500
cards will be produced and the card will sold for ¥1410.

In the meeting on October 12, Youichi Wada has hinted that the American
version will come out. This means that most likely ff11 will be released in
the US, yay! However, square has also hinted that the ps2 version will NOT
come out in America, which makes sense because square didn't ship any of
their hard drives yet and their network adaptor supply in America is running
dry. Square is still in deficit after releasing ff11, but once the American
version comes out, it should bail square out of their deficit.

The official US release date has not been released yet, but expect to see
ff11 at around summer of 2003 if square works hard enough.

FF Crystal Chronicles details for the GameCube…….
October 11, 2002
Finally got my ff11, my network adaptor, and managed to borrow a chipped ps2
in Japan. Then something struck me. I need a freakin hard drive to download
the updates and play. Guess what, American hds for ps2s does not exist. You
cannot plug in your normal average hd to ur ps2 (I guess too much heat?)
Then I found out something. You don't NEED a hd for American version to play
online as long as you're using a broadband connection. It streams it
directly so you don't have to download. I'm not sure if this is true so I
gotta confirm this. On the other hand, Japanese ps2s need the hd to play online
no matter what. Their network adaptors solely depends on the hd.

Now for the solid news.
In Japan only limited quantities of their ps2 hds were made. They were sold
at around $150 American dollars for a 40 gig hd (pretty expensive eh?) In
the San Jose Times news paper however, stated that the American hd will only
be $80 us dollars once it comes out :P.

FF 11/12 News Briefs…….
October 11, 2002
FF 11 special art box is out 9/26/02. Its just limited edition and they printed
only a certain amount of this. I actually had one of these imported to me
:)!!! Beta Windows edition of ff11 is being tested in cyber cafes and pc
stations around Japan. Its been a success so ff11 is coming out on windows
on 11/7/02. Its got better graphics and its brighter than the ps2 edition. Last news that I could think of in my mind is ff12. It WILL be single player. But the development of ff12 solely depends on ff11. If ff11 turns out to be a big hit, square will make ff12 single and multi player. On the other hand, if ff11 fails miserably, ff12 will be single player.

Release date for ff12 is March
2004 in japan. About ff11 now. Ff11 is extremely expensive now that I
calculated a price. The keyboard and mouse (optional but nice to have) is
bout 20 bucks a piece. The game is bout 10 us dollars in Japan. The network
adaptor is 40$. The us release of the ps2 hard drive will be 80$. There is a
monthly payment of 10 dollar a month to playonline. You do the math.

------ opinion section -------
Since square is relying on ff11 to produce ff12, the success on ff11 is very
important. And America takes a big role in this factor because most of
squares business comes from America right? WRONG. Square is king of delays
on any games. People are not too optimistic that square can even get the US
server set up in late 2003. Well by that time, ff12 is almost complete so
the success in America won't do a thing to change ff12. And worst of all,
lets be a bit pessimistic and say square releases ff11 English in America in
early 2004. By that time ff12 is almost out in Japan. This posses another
dilemma. Will square bother spending all that cash in America to release
ff11 late and then people won't buy it and will rather wait for ff12? I'm
seeing that square has a chance that they won't release ff11 in America. If
square wants business in America, they'll have to work fast. Otherwise, ff11
will never see the light of day in the US. If ff11 doesn't come out in
America, I've already warned u. Just thought u'd like to know.
