New FFXI expansion
details revealed
|
February 7, 2004 |
|
Square Enix plans on
expanding the world of FFXI by adding some new features to the game, which
includes a Limbo area. New details have revealed about the possibility
of an expansion title as well as new details about the special features
added in the game. Square Enix has called the upgrade “Chains of Promathia”
in the USA. It should also be noted that these titles are related to the
mythology found in FFXI. In an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, the
development team behind FFXI showed new details about future upgrades.
The new Limbo area will be suited for new and larger quests, not to mention
that Player-versus-Player is coming to the Vana’diel area. They plan on
making PvP part of a special new story element as well as tweaking some
minor features such as the possibility of refining weapon skills and raising
the level cap. Finally, they plan on balancing the job classes in the
game.

Uematsu reveals new
details on various projects
|
January 16, 2004 |
|
Nobuo Uematsu, the famed
composer of the Final Fantasy series as everybody knows, recently talked
about his recent projects in an interview with Dengeki Online. He revealed
some new interesting tidbits about FFXII and FFVII: Advent Children. As
of present, Uematsu is currently busy working on the FFXII soundtrack,
which is a joint effort with Hitoshi Sakimoto. He is also the mastermind
behind the soundtrack of FFVII: Advent Children. According to Uetmatsu,
it seems that the soundtrack of Advent Children will feature three different
styles of music, ranging from rock, classical as well as folk music. What
is good to hear is that he is possibly considering reusing some previous
FFVII themes into Advent Children, such as the overworld theme, Aeris’
theme and One Winged Angel. He also mentioned that another Black Mages
album will be released sometime during the summer or fall of this year.

Famitsu reveals new
information on Final Fantasy XII
|
January 4, 2004 |
|
A recent issue of Famitsu
contains some new pieces of information on FFXII. The magazine showed
characters as well as visuals and some details as far as the battle system
is concerned. It is reported that the character cast in FFXII would be
quite large and based on initial reports; it appears that two of the game’s
characters, Fran and Balfrea, are partners. The development team is advised
by the teams that worked on FFX and FFXI. So, it is evident that many
of development techniques used in those previous games will be used in
FFXII as well. One concept idea is to create different languages for the
various races found in FFXII. The battle system will be fairly similar
to FFX-2 but with some unique enhancements. Characters and enemies will
face off in two lines and the screen itself will feature three slots which
can be filled with blue gems. No word is given on what they actually do.
Final Fantasy XII will be released in Japan sometime in 2004. As for a
North American release, it’s not confirmed yet but very likely to follow
the Japanese release in the near future.
