There has been
several new details and gameplay information revealed by Square-Enix
regarding Final Fantasy XIII. The trailer shows the main character
Lightning entering a train carrying people that are set to be deported
from the Cocoon. Another playable character, Vanille, is one of the
convicts that later on joins Lightning’s party. Snow, the other
playable character as shown in previous trailers, is leader of the
resistance movement fighting against the Cocoon government.
As for gameplay, all enemies will be visible on the field map.
Encounters are triggered by running into an enemy. Transitions between
the exploration component and battle are expected to be seamless in
nature and the battle system is said to be an improved version of the
old Active Time Battle System. As a result, battles are command-based
and each character can only perform a certain number of actions. This
restriction is determined by the number of action points at the
character’s disposal. Different commands utilize a different number of
action points. Also to note, at the top right-hand corner there is
what is known as the “bonus gauge”. However, at this point there is no
information revealed as to how the gauge works.
Final Fantasy XIII is slated to hit store shelves on both sides of the
Pacific sometime later this year. We will keep you updated as more
information is known.
