Information

Currently, Tetsuya Nomura remains one of the biggest names in Squaresoft and started working with the company at a young age.  He started working on FFV for the battle graphics in 1992 and has constantly worked on numerous major Squaresoft projects since then.  For FFVI, he worked as graphics director and had a major breakthrough in 1995, when he became lead character designer for what turned out to be the mega-hit Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation.  For FFVIII, he also was lead character designer and battle visual director.  Other key works of his include Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts and being the director for FFVII: Advent Children.  Current projects include the Final Fantasy XIII project and as director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

His character styles have been both praised and criticized heavily.  He has a personal taste for trendy clothing, accessories and hairstyle have found their way into his character designs.  Nomura is also no stranger to controversy as he stated his interest in working for Nintendo back in 2000.  That was before Square and Nintendo resolved their differences and occurred at a time when Squaresoft did not have very good relations with Nintendo.  Tetsuya Nomura also has vocally communicated about his preferences and intentions throughout his internal staff regarding character designs and occasionally changing/adding different aspects within the storylines of the games he has worked with extensively.  Much has been made about a rivalry between Nomura and the legendary Amano, but clearly this is not the case as Nomura has stated that he admires Amano and has great respect for him.  With Nomura taking care of Square's biggest projects, he shall remain one of the key players in the company and for the FF franchise.
