5. Final Fantasy 1
This game started it all. The first in the never ending collection. The game
was first made sometime in 1987. Not too much history is known about this game.
What I do know is that Square wasn’t too good at making games back then. Nintendo
gave Square one last chance to redeem themselves. So Square started a project
called “Final Fantasy” as it might be the last game their company will ever
produce. The project sprouted from the mind of Hironobu Sakaguchi. He had the
idea of competing with Enix’s hit rpg “Dragon Quest.” Hironobu also said,”I
don’t think I have what it takes to make a good action game. I prefer telling
stories.” No one at Square ever realized what a big hit this game was going
to be, but they did know if the game did not meet expectations, Square is lost
forever. When the game came out, it was a huge hit. Millions of copies were
sold, and Nintendo renewed it’s faith with Square. Square decided to stick with
the rpg industry, but retained the name “Final Fantasy.” Final Fantasy 1 and
2 are now both remade and will be released in North America as Final Fantasy
Origins. The number of mint conditions of the original Final Fantasy is slowly
diminishing. If you own a copy of this game mint in box, you’re a lucky man.
