INT. AERIS’ HOUSE – BEDROOM – DUSK

ELMYRA snuggly tucks MARLENE in bed.

ELMYRA

You must sleep, child.

MARLENE

I want daddy.

Elmyra sighs.

ELMYRA

I know, I know.

She kisses Marlene on the forehead, turns off the light and leaves.

INT. AERIS’ HOUSE – MAIN ROOM – DUSK

Elmyra walks down the stairs and into her main room. She grabs a cup of coffee from the counter and goes to sit down. She sips the coffee when someone KNOCKS on her front door. She goes sets her coffee down and goes to the door. Before the knob is completely turned the door BURSTS open. A SHINRA CAPTAIN with a squad of SHINRA SOLDIERS enters.

ELMYRA

What is going on here!?

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Elmyra Gainsborough?

ELMYRA

Yes.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

You’re under arrest under the order of the President of Shinra Incorporated.

The soldiers grab her by the arm.

ELMYRA

This is outrageous! Unhand me!

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Negative, Ms. Gainsborough. You are to be transported to Junon immediately.

A THUD! is heard from the second floor.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Are you alone?

ELMYRA

Yes, now let me go.

A few beats; then

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

(to a soldier)

Check it out.

SHINRA SOLDIER #15

Yes sir.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

(to Elmyra)

We will see if you’re telling the truth.

INT. AERIS’ HOUSE – HALLWAY – DUSK

The soldier walks down the hallway with his gun raised. He checks one bedroom from the hall and sees nothing. He progresses to the next door and pushes the door open with the barrel of his gun. He walks into --

INT. AERIS’ HOUSE – BEDROOM – DUSK

The soldier quietly flips the light switch on with his gun raised at the bed. Nothing. The bed is empty. The soldier walks deeper into the room.

Meanwhile, UNDER the bed Marlene hides silently.

ABOVE

The soldier looks around and exits the room.

INT. AERIS’ HOUSE – MAIN ROOM – DUSK

The soldier walks down the stairs back into the main room.

SHINRA SOLDIER #15

There’s nothing sir.

A few beats; then

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Let’s go. The president needs her in Junon by the time he gets there.

ELMYRA

I already told you, I’m not going anywhere.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

We can kill you now, if you’d like.

Elmyra sighs and holds out her hands to the captain. They escort her out.

EXT. OPEN WORLD – OUTSIDE FORT CONDOR – DAY

CLOUD, BARRET, AERIS, TIFA, RED XIII, and YUFFIE walk the plains of the open world. Yuffie’s hands are still bound and she is falling behind.

BARRET

(violently shoving Yuffie forward)

Keep walking!

Yuffie lets out a small cry of pain.

TIFA

Barret!

BARRET

What?

CLOUD

He’s alright. The girl deserved it.

Yuffie snarls at Cloud from behind. Red XIII looks to north east and sees a tall tower fortress on the rocky terrain of the plains. On top of the fortress is a large golden statue of a bird.

RED XIII

What’s that?

CLOUD

Fort Condor, one of the only places on the planet that has refused to let Shinra in. In Shinra’s eyes they’re rebels.

AERIS

Is Shinra at war with them?

CLOUD

You can call it a war if you want. Shinra’s contently trying to invade them. They’ve actually held them off for quite some time.

BARRET

A small band of rebels in a fort are able to hold Shinra. Amazing.

CLOUD

Right now, Shinra’s got bigger concerns.

TIFA

You think the fort will ever fall?

CLOUD

The men in there would rather die than be clients of Shinra.

RED XIII

Perhaps they need our help.

CLOUD

We can’t. Not now. We’ve got our own mission. Just keep walking.

Aeris, disappointed, watches as Fort Condor starts to disappear on the horizon, while Yuffie attempts to chew through the vine binding her hands.

CLOUD

It’s no use. Those vines are some of the strongest the planet has.

YUFFIE

(biting the vines)

I’m not going to Junon with you!

Cloud smiles.

YUFFIE

(CONT.)

I’d rather be dead.

CLOUD

That can be arranged.

(BEAT)

If you want.

Yuffie, intimidated, stops gnawing at the vines. A few beats; then

AERIS

Are we really going to just give her to Shinra?

CLOUD

Why not?

AERIS

You know what they’ll do to her.

CLOUD

That’s her problem, not ours.

AERIS

She’s a human being, Cloud.

YUFFIE

The girl’s right. Why not just let me go?

CLOUD

Because I don’t want to. I have no sympathy for thieves.

YUFFIE

I told you, it was my job!

CLOUD

Yeah? It’s the Turks job to run around and kill people. Should we just them go too?

Yuffie is speechless.

BARRET

He’s got a point, little lady.

Yuffie sighs.

EXT. OPEN WORLD – NEAR JUNON - DUSK

The party continues to walk the open world. Off in the distance is Junon built into a cliff face on the shore. A 500 hundred foot canon stretches from the base and points all the way out to the sea.

TIFA

Is that it!?

CLOUD

Junon Harbor.

BARRET

Look at the fuckin’ cannon!

CLOUD

Just wait ‘till we there. It’s much bigger than it looks.

AERIS

Unbelievable.

RED XIII

Are you positive we’ll make it in unnoticed?

CLOUD

There’s a small town at the bottom of the base. The people there are pretty normal.

TIFA

This is suicide! Cloud there’s no way you can get to Rufus, much less kill him.

CLOUD

I’ll find a way.

(BEAT)

Besides if Sephiroth can get in, so can I.

EXT. JUNON TOWN - STREETS – NIGHT

Cloud and the others walk into the town at the bottom of Junon. The houses and streets are run-down but not as bad as the slums. On the west side of town is the large cargo size elevator leading to the base.

CLOUD

(scanning the town)

What happened to this place?

AERIS

Have you been here before?

CLOUD

Once. I was in SOLDIER and they assigned me here.

AERIS

You think anyone would recognize you?

CLOUD

Probably not. It was a long time ago.

AERIS

You never know, Cloud.

Suddenly a TOWNSMAN (32) walks up to the group.

TOWNSMAN

Can I help you folks?

CLOUD

Who are you?

TOWNSMAN

Just a citizen living here. We’re not used to visitors.

TIFA

We’re looking for a way up into the base.

The man looks at everyone in the group. A few beats; then

TOWNSMAN

What for?

Cloud grabs Yuffie, drags her forward, and stands her upright in front of the man.

CLOUD

We got a prisoner to turn into Shinra. We’re bounty hunters looking to collect.

YUFFIE

They’re lying! He’s going to assassin—

Barret plows his gun-arm into the back of Yuffie’s head knocking her unconscious. Tifa catches her as she falls.

BARRET

The bitch is scumbag thief. You can’t believe anything she says.

The man is skeptical.

TOWNSMAN

What’s going on here?

AERIS

Like my friend said, we are bounty hunters and we must turn this woman in.

TOWNSMAN

Why is it that a pretty lady like you chose to be a bounty hunter?

CLOUD

Enough! We told you our business not move aside!

TOWNSMAN

This is our home. We’ve had enough of scum like you screwing with this town.

CLOUD

We don’t care about your town. All we need is to get into the base. That’s all.

TOWNSMAN

Well you’re out of luck. Shinra closed access of the elevator.

CLOUD

You sure?

The man points to the elevator and two SHINRA SOLDIERS guarding it.

TOWNSMAN

(pointing at the elevator)

Those soldiers won’t let anyone through. No one.

CLOUD

Why not?

TOWNSMAN

Word is that there’s a big ceremony for Rufus, the new president of Shinra. Security’s tight.

CLOUD

Is there any way up?

TOWNSMAN

Not that I know of.

CLOUD

(BEAT)

Alright, thanks.

A few beats; then

TOWNSMAN

You promise to be outa’ here once you’re done with your business?

CLOUD

Once we drop off this prisoner, you’ll never hear from us again.

The man sighs to himself and rubs his forehead.

TOWNSMAN

As long as you don’t shit up the town, you’re welcome to stay. I’m Aaron.

Aaron extends his hand and Cloud shakes it.

AERIS

Thank you.

AARON

You can get some rooms in the inn and bring this town some profit.

Aaron spits a chunk of saliva on the ground and walks away.

CLOUD

Let’s get to the inn.

The party walks toward the inn. Tifa drags the unconscious body of Yuffie.

INT. AARON’S HOUSE – DINING ROOM – NIGHT

Aaron, the townsman, walks to his countertop and grabs a bottle of liquor. He opens it and quickly swigs a fourth of the bottle. His eyes blink rapidly like he’s half-drunk.

AARON

(looking at the bottle of liquor)

Damn.

He takes another swig and walks to the window. Aaron watches from the window as Cloud and the others walk to the inn. Suddenly Aaron’s wife, RAPHIELLA (30), walks in wearing old-style clothing.

RAPHIELLA

What are you staring at?

AARON

We got visitors.

Raphiella walks to the window and watches next to Aaron as Cloud and the party enter the inn.

AARON

(CONT.)

I don’t trust ‘em.

RAPHIELLA

Maybe they’re travelers.

AARON

They say they’re bounty hunters.

RAPHIELLA

Bounty hunters?

AARON

Yeah. That one I talked to was lying through his teeth, though. Bounty hunters, my ass.

RAPHIELLA

How do you know they’re lying?

AARON

I looked at the one in the eyes. Those aint the eyes of bounty hunters. I’ve seen eyes like that before. Eyes like that belong to people in SOLDIER.

RAPHIELLA

SOLDIER? If he was in SOLDIER, wouldn’t he have told you?

AARON

They’re hiding something.

Raphiella backs away from the window.

RAPHIELLA

Just forget about it, Aaron.

AARON

No. I’m letting our home die at the hands of Shinra stooges.

RAPHIELLA

You really have to stop drinking. Shinra already took away our son. We won’t let them take Priscilla.

Raphiella starts to walk toward the hallway.

RAPHIELLA

(CONT.)

Speaking of Priscilla, where is she?

(BEAT)

Priscilla!

No answer.

RAPHIELLA

(CONT.)

Priscilla!

Still no answer. Aaron continues to look at the inn trying to see through the windows.

RAPHIELLA

Aaron?

Hypnotized, Aaron still looks out the window.

RAPHIELLA

Aaron!

He turns to face his wife.

AARON

What?

RAPHIELLA

Where’s our daughter?

AARON

(BEAT)

In her room?

RAPHIELLA

(extremely worried)

Son of a bitch, Aaron.

Raphiella walks out into--

INT. AARON’S HOUSE – HALLWAY – NIGHT

She walks to the stairs and climbs up to--

INT. AARON’S HOUSE – PRISCILLA’S ROOM – NIGHT

The room is empty.

RAPHIELLA

Priscilla! Come out if you’re hiding.

Raphiella goes to Priscilla’s closet and opens it. Nothing. She lets out a deep sigh of worry.

INT. INN – ROOM 1 – NIGHT

On the second floor of the inn the party enters their room. Tifa lays Yuffie, who’s still unconscious, on a bed.

TIFA

Finally.

BARRET

(jokingly)

What? Too heavy for you?

TIFA

Barret?

BARRET

Yeah?

TIFA

Shut up.

A beat,

CLOUD

I got two rooms. Who wants to stay here with me and Yuffie?

AERIS

I’ll stay.

CLOUD

Fine. The rest of you have the next room.

TIFA

(jokingly)

Yes, sir.

CLOUD

Try to get as much sleep as you can. We have to find a way inside that base.

RED XIII

And what if our “little prisoner” escapes in the night?

CLOUD

She won’t.

(BEAT)

And if she does, Barret can shoot her.

Barret lets out a laugh.

BARRET

With pleasure.

TIFA

See you in the morning then, Cloud.

AERIS

Goodnight, Tifa.

Red XIII, Barret, and Tifa leave.

CLOUD

(to Aeris)

Lock the door.

Aeris walks to the door and locks it. She then walks to her bed and sits down.

AERIS

I can’t believe how ignorant I was.

CLOUD

What?

Cloud walks to bed and unties Yuffie.

AERIS

(as Cloud ties Yuffie to the bed)

I thought Midgar was the only place that needed saving from Shinra. I was wrong.

Cloud tightens the knot on the vines locking Yuffie into place.

CLOUD

(unsheathing his sword)

At least they have a home. They won’t if Sephiroth gets his way.

He places his sword under his bed and sits down.

AERIS

Being an Ancient…a Cetra, I know it’s my responsibility to help these people.

CLOUD

You’re doing your best.

AERIS

I know. It’s just that I can’t see anything helping. No matter what I do.

Cloud gets up and walks to Aeris bed. He sits down next to her.

CLOUD

There’s something you need to know…about Sephiroth.

AERIS

What?

CLOUD

He cannot find out who you are.

AERIS

Why not?

CLOUD

Right now, he thinks that the only two Ancients left on the planet are him and Jenova. If he finds out who you are he’ll come after you. You will be all that stands in his way of reaching the Promised Land.

AERIS

I understand.

CLOUD

Good. So don’t go getting yourself killed.

Cloud gets up and sits back down on his own bed.

EXT. JUNON TOWN – STREETS – NIGHT

Raphiella bursts out of her house.

RAPHIELLA

(yelling)

Priscilla!

No answer. Aaron appears in the doorframe of their house.

AARON

You find her?

RAPHIELLA

Just don’t talk to me right now, Aaron!

AARON

She’s my daughter, too.

RAPHIELLA

This is your fault, you alcoholic bastard!

Raphiella walks down to the --

EXT. JUNON – SHORES – NIGHT

RAPHIELLA

Priscilla!

She walks down the rocky sands of the shores to the dark polluted water. A large steel support column stretches out from the ocean to the base above.

RAPHIELLA

Priscilla!

No answer. She looks next to column and sees her daughter PRISCILLA (6), swimming and playing with the dolphins. Raphiella lets out a sigh of relief.

RAPHIELLA

Priscilla! Get over here.

PRISCILLA

Hi mommy! Look, I’m playing with the dolphins.

RAPHIELLA

(calmer)

Priscilla, it’s late. Time to come home.

PRISCILLA

I’m having fun.

(to dolphin)

Hello Mr. Dolphin. My name’s Priscilla. Can you say it? Pri-scil-la.

RAPHIELLA

Come on! You can play tomorrow.

PRISCILLA

What if the dolphins aren’t here tomorrow?

RAPHIELLA

They will be. Now come home. You know what kinds of monsters are out.

As if on cue the dolphin suddenly swims away. The water starts to bubble. It starts to slow and gets faster and more violent.

PRISCILLA

Mommy?

RAPHIELLA

(screaming)

Priscilla! Hurry!

The little girl attempts to swim back to shore but is too slow. SHLASH! A huge fish-like water beast shoots up from the water. Priscilla SCREAMS.

RAPHIELLA

Priscilla!

PRISCILLA

(being sucked under water)

Mommy help!

INT. INN – ROOM 1 – NIGHT

RAPHIELLA (OS)

Help!

Startled, Cloud gets up.

CLOUD

What was that?!

AERIS

I don’t know.

INT. INN – ROOM 2 – NIGHT

Red XIII, Barret, and Tifa also react to the screams.

BARRET

What the hell is going on?

He and Tifa walk to the window and look out. He sees Raphiella running toward the soldiers guarding the elevator.

RED XIII

What do you see?

BARRET

Something’s happening.

EXT. JUNON TOWN – OUTSIDE ELEVATOR – NIGHT

Raphiella runs to the soldiers guarding the elevator.

RAPHIELLA

Please! You’ve got to help me! My daughter is drowning!

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

What?

RAPHIELLA

My daughter is drowning! This giant water thing is about to kill her.

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

Bottomswell?

(to the other soldier)

Didn’t we get rid of that thing already?

SHINRA SOLDIER #17

Yeah, a few months ago.

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

Oh yeah. That thing kept feeding on the oil in the water.

RAPHIELLA

Aren’t you going to do anything!?

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

About what?

RAPHIELLA

My daughter!

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

Who?

Raphiella groans and runs off back to Priscilla.

INT. INN – ROOM 1 – NIGHT

CLOUD

(grabbing his sword)

Aeris, stay here. Make sure Yuffie doesn’t go anywhere if she wakes up.

AERIS

Where are you going?

CLOUD

To see what’s happening.

Cloud sheathes his sword, unlocks the door, and leaves.

INT. INN – ROOM 2 – NIGHT

Barret, Red XIII, and Tifa, hear Cloud close the door shut with a THUD!

TIFA

That’s Cloud.

RED XIII

Perhaps I’ll join him.

BARRET

What? This isn’t our problem.

TIFA

So stay here.

Red XIII charges the closed door and bursts through it shattering it to pieces.

INT. INN – HALLWAY – NIGHT

Tifa and Red XIII run down the hall to aid Cloud.

EXT. JUNON TOWN- STREETS – NIGHT

Hearing his wife’s cry for help Aaron runs out onto the streets.

AARON

What’s going on?

RAPHIELLA

Priscilla! She’s drowning!

AARON

Shit!

Aaron joins his wife and they run to the --

EXT. JUNON – SHORES – NIGHT

Just as Aaron and Raphiella arrive Priscilla goes under and the large water beast swims around her.

AARON

Priscilla!

Aaron runs into the water and starts swimming toward his daughter. The Bottomswell beast sees him and snarls. It swims forward blocking Aaron’s path.

AARON

Get out of the way!

The beast snaps its jaws at Aaron. Suddenly Cloud, Tifa, and Red XIII run out onto the shores.

TIFA

(seeing Bottomswell)

Whoa!

RAPHIELLA

Please, you’ve got to help my husband! Our daughter’s drowning.

RED XIII

Move aside.

The group moves aside and Red XIII backs up a few paces. He runs then LEAPS twenty feet into the ocean swimming toward the fallen Priscilla.

CLOUD

That thing will kill all of them.

TIFA

We have to stop it.

Cloud takes out his sword and charges the water with Tifa. The two battle Bottomswell.*

Red XIII dives under water and grabs Priscilla. Cloud and Tifa kill the Bottomswell as Red XIII pulls Priscilla to shore.

RAPHIELLA

(checking Priscilla’s breathing)

She’s not breathing!

Aaron swims to shore.

AARON

Someone do something! Anyone know CPR?

He looks at Red XIII.

RED XIII

Whoa, not me. I do declare that you need another human for the job.

Cloud and Tifa reach the shore.

CLOUD

Move.

TIFA

Is she okay?

AARON

She aint breathing.

TIFA

Cloud, administer CPR!

CLOUD

Me? Mouth to mouth?

TIFA

That’s what CPR is!

CLOUD

But she’s just a girl.

TIFA

Do it!

CLOUD

Fine.

Aaron, Raphiella, Red XIII, and Tifa back away giving Cloud room. Cloud gets on his knees and administers CPR to Priscilla. Raphiella and Aaron are arm in arm waiting for a response. Finally Priscilla COUGHS. She spews out water and sits up. Raphiella goes to hug her.

AARON

(as Cloud stands up)

Thank you.

CLOUD

Don’t mention it.

Tifa lightly hugs Cloud.

TIFA

You did it!

RAPHIELLA

I have to take her to the doctor’s.

Cloud looks at Priscilla and notices a necklace that has a small red sphere on it. His eyes widen as he realizes that the red sphere is materia. Before he can say anything Raphiella takes her away.

AARON

We’ll let you know in the morning how she is.

TIFA

Okay. I hope she’ll be fine.

AARON

Me too. Again, thank you.

Aaron goes to join his wife. A few beats; then

RED XIII

What a rush eh?

INT. INN – HALLWAY – NIGHT

Cloud, Tifa, and Red XIII walk down the hallway of the inn back to their rooms. Two INN EMPLOYEES are gathering the mess that Red XIII made when he crashed through the door.

RED XIII

Sorry about the mess.

INN EMPLOYEE #1

(to Cloud)

What?

Cloud points down at Red XIII indicating it he who talked. The employee’s eyes widen and his jaw drops.

RED XIII

Sorry ‘bout the mess.

INN EMPLOYEE #1

(BEAT)

What are you?

Tired of answering the same question, Red XIII sighs and walks back into his room.

TIFA

(to Cloud)

See you in the morning.

CLOUD

Yep.

Tifa walks into her room.

INT. INN – ROOM 1 – NIGHT

Aeris sits on her bed watching Yuffie, who is now AWAKE.

YUFFIE

You always do what he says?

AERIS

You’re a thief and deserve to be turned in. Why should I listen to you?

YUFFIE

I don’t know. Why are you?

They’re interrupted when Cloud opens the door and enters the room. When he’s in he closes and locks the door.

CLOUD

Look who’s awake.

YUFFIE

Fuck you.

Cloud smiles and unsheathes his sword. He places it under his bed and sits down.

AERIS

What happened? Barret said he saw some woman running around town.

CLOUD

A girl almost drowned.

AERIS

Is she okay?

CLOUD

Yeah. Red rescued her.

A few beats; then

CLOUD

(CONT.)

You should get some sleep.

(to Yuffie)

And you, I’ll be all night. So you’re not going anywhere.

INT. INN – ROOM 1 – (LATER THAT) NIGHT

The room is dark. Cloud sits on his bed staring at Yuffie who appears to be asleep. Aeris is sound asleep in her bed. As he watches, Cloud struggles to stay awake. His eyelids are heavy and are falling. He fights the urge to sleep. A few beats; then Cloud’s eyes shut.

YUFFIE

Yuffie’s eyes open. She looks and sees that Cloud is asleep. A beat; then she makes her move. Her wrist is pulled free from her bindings. She goes for the other wrist but it is too tight. A few beats; then she sees her pouch where all her weapons are stashed. With her arm extended she attempts to grab the pouch with her fingers. Yuffie is only inches away.

YUFFIE

(whispering)

Come on.

There NOISE. Startled Yuffie looks and sees that the noise came from Cloud falling from his sitting position and into a laying one. She sighs in relief and then finally grabs the pouch. Yuffie quickly grabs a few shurikens from the pouch and stashes them in her pocket.

YUFFIE

(whispering)

Yes.

She tosses the pouch back and slips her wrist back in the binding.

CLOUD

ZOOM IN as Cloud sleeps. His eyes flicker.

DREAM VOICE (VO)

The dream voice laughs.

Cloud’s eyes open. He sits up and sees that Aeris is gone and Yuffie is still in her bed. Tifa is also there.

CLOUD

Tifa.

TIFA

Morning Cloud.

CLOUD

(BEAT)

Where’s Aeris?

TIFA

She went for something to eat.

CLOUD

Oh.

A few beats; then Cloud sees Barret walk passed in the hallway.

CLOUD

Barret!

Barret walks into the doorframe.

BARRET

Yeah?

CLOUD

Take Yuffie down with you.

BARRET

You got it.

Barret walks in the room, unties Yuffie and drags her to her feet. He rebinds her hands and starts to escort her out.

BARRET

Come one, little lady.

He escorts her out. A few beats; then

TIFA

We still need to find a way in Junon.

CLOUD

Tifa, when Sephiroth and I came to Nibelheim, where were you?

TIFA

I was with you.

CLOUD

The other time.

TIFA

I don’t remember. It was ten years ago.

Cloud sighs.

CLOUD

Alright.

TIFA

Come on, we’re all waiting for you.

Tifa leaves. Cloud sighs and rubs his eyes.

EXT. JUNON TOWN – STREETS – DAWN

Cloud walks down the outdoor staircase and down to the streets of Junon. The group is there waiting.

AERIS

Cloud!

CLOUD

Hi.

A huge ROARING sound is heard above. They all look up and see Shinra planes pass over the town.

BARRET

It’s started.

TIFA

They’re shipping in all the executives for Rufus’s ceremony.

BARRET

We gotta pay our respects to him.

CLOUD

No. Rufus is mine. It’ll be easier for just me to get to him.

RED XIII

Speaking of which, how are we supposed to get inside?

CLOUD

Take the elevator. Turn in Yuffie and board a boat heading for Costa Del Sol.

AERIS

What’s that?

CLOUD

A tropical resort. I’ll meet you there.

BARRET

What if you don’t show?

CLOUD

If I’m not there by nightfall, leave without me. I’ll be either caught or killed.

BARRET

RAPHIELLA (OS)

Excuse me, sir!

They look and see Raphiella, Aaron, and Priscilla walk toward them from their house.

TIFA

Hey it’s the little girl.

AARON

Her name’s Priscilla.

TIFA

Hi Priscilla.

AERIS

(to Cloud)

Is that the girl you saved?

CLOUD

Yeah.

RAPHIELLA

We just want to thank you before you leave. Priscilla will be okay.

CLOUD

It was no problem.

PRISCILLA

(pointing at Red XIII)

They look at Red XIII.

AARON

Your pet?

RED XIII

PRISCILLA

He talked!

RED XIII

That’s right, my dear. I’m also quite intelligent for my species.

PRISCILLA

By all means. I haven’t been pet in years.

Priscilla moves in and pets Red XIII. Meanwhile Cloud’s eyes lock on the amulet with the materia around Priscilla’s neck.

RAPHIELLA

Alright Priscilla, it’s time to go.

Priscilla goes back to join her mother.

RAPHIELLA

(to Cloud)

Again, thank you.

CLOUD

What’s that around your daughter’s neck?

Raphiella looks at the amulet.

AARON

It was left here by one of your comrades in SOLDIER before she was born.

CLOUD

Do you know what it is?

AARON

No. We saw it in a shop and Priscilla thought it was pretty.

Cloud gets on one knee and looks Priscilla in the eyes.

CLOUD

Priscilla,

(BEAT)

I’m going to ask you if I have that amulet around your neck. Can I?

Priscilla looks at her parents.

RAPHIELLA

What do you need it for?

CLOUD

That red sphere inside is materia. Do you know what materia is?

AARON

Heard of it.

Priscilla takes her amulet off and gives it to Cloud.

PRISCILLA

Thanks for saving me.

CLOUD

(looking at the amulet)

Thank you, Priscilla.

He pockets the amulet and stands up. A few beats; then

AARON

You still looking to get into the city?

TIFA

Yeah.

AARON

The elevator’s still closed off. They aint letting anyone up.

BARRET

We’ll find a way.

PRISCILLA

The steel thing.

AARON

What?

PRISCILLA

The tall steel thing by the beach.

RAPHIELLA

She’s talking about the rig.

AARON

She’s right! It leads right up into the city.

CLOUD

Thank you.

TIFA

We’re indebted to you.

AARON

If anything, we’re indebted to you. You saved our daughter’s life.

(BEAT)

We wish you luck.

TIFA

Aaron shakes Cloud’s hand he goes back into his house Raphiella and Priscilla.

BARRET

So there’s a plan now?

CLOUD

Yeah.

BARRET

What is it? We all can’t climb that rig, especially with Yuffie all tied up.

CLOUD

You’re not climbing the rig. I am.

BARRET

How the hell are we supposed to get in?

CLOUD

That’s not my problem. Find a way. Just be at Costa Del Sol.

AERIS

What if he shows up?

TIFA

He?

CLOUD

Sephiroth. She’s talking about Sephiroth.

AERIS

What if he shows up?

CLOUD

I’ll kill both him and Rufus. We’ll end it all here.

(BEAT)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get climbing.

BARRET

You’re leaving now?

CLOUD

RED XIII

We’ve yet to work out plan to get us inside the city.

CLOUD

Correction, you haven’t worked out a plan yet. I’m putting mine into action.

Cloud walks off toward the beach.

BARRET

He’s still a stubborn son of bitch.

TIFA

He always has been.

A few beats; then

RED XIII

We still haven’t figured a way up into the city.

BARRET

I know.

RED XIII

Well?

BARRET

What the hell you looking at me for?

AERIS

Why can’t we just take the elevator?

BARRET

It’s blocked off.

TIFA

Since when has that ever stopped you?

EXT. JUNON – SHORES – DAY

Cloud walks from the dirty sand into the water. He trudges toward the tall steel grated pillar leading up. He slowly begins his accent.

EXT. JUNON TOWN – NEAR ELEVATOR – DAY

Barret and the remaining members of the party walk toward the two Shinra soldiers guarding the elevator.

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

Can we help you?

BARRET

We’ve got a prisoner.

Tifa pushes Yuffie forward in front of the group.

BARRET

(CONT.)

We’d like to know where to turn her in.

SHINRA SOLDIER #17

You’ll have to turn her in up in the city.

BARRET

Then will you let us by?

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

By order of the president himself, we can’t let anyone in.

BARRET

This woman is a thief and has no doubt killed many of your soldiers.

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

Have you any proof?

BARRET

No.

SHINRA SOLDIER #17

Then beat it.

Barret looks at the rest of the group lost on ideas. A few beats; then

BARRET

You won’t let us through then?

SHINRA SOLDIER #16

That’s right. Now beat it.

BARRET

Okay. Restrict this!

BOOM! Barret fires and kills both soldiers with his gun-arm.

TIFA

Barret!

BARRET

I had no choice. Get rid of the bodies.

Red XIII and Aeris drag the bodies backward toward a well next to the elevator.

BARRET

Take off their uniforms.

Aeris starts to strip the soldiers of their uniforms. Meanwhile Barret walks over to a TOWN CITIZEN who saw the whole scene. He pulls out a small bag of gil to the citizen.

BARRET

What happened here?

TOWN CITIZEN

The lazy soldiers, they left their posts and never came back.

Barret lets the citizen take the bag of gil. He then walks back over to the party. Aeris has full stripped both soldiers.

BARRET

Dump the bodies.

Tifa drops both bodies in the well.

BARRET

(tossing a uniform to Aeris and Tifa)

Put those on.

INT. JUNON CITY – COMMAND ROOM – DAY

A view of the vast ocean as the sun reflects off the water.

PAN BACK to

President Rufus standing with his hands behind his back staring out to sea. A Shinra captain (#3) enters.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Sir, we have her.

RUFUS

(still looking out to sea)

Where is she?

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

She is in our containment facility.

RUFUS

I want her brought here.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Sir?

RUFUS

Is she dangerous?

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

I believe not, sir.

RUFUS

Then I want her here. Understood?

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

Understood.

RUFUS

Now leave me.

The captain salutes Rufus and exits. As he exits SCARLET enters.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #3

(saluting Scarlet)

Executive Scarlet.

SCARLET

(returning the salute)

The captain nods and leaves as Scarlet walks up to the table.

RUFUS

(turning around to face her)

Scarlet, welcome.

SCARLET

Hello, Rufus.

RUFUS

Have all my executives arrived?

SCARLET

No. Reeve is still in Midgar.

RUFUS

(angered)

What?

SCARLET

He felt it wasn’t safe to have all of Shinra’s executives here in one place. Plus he wanted to survey the damage to Sector 7.

Rufus SLAMS his fist on the table.

RUFUS

It was not his decision! For his sake my plan better work.

SCARLET

Speaking of that, Mr. President, do you think your plan will work? You’re using all of us and the woman as bait.

RUFUS

AVALANCHE will take the bait, and we will be ready.

SCARLET

And then Sephiroth will slip right between our fingers.

RUFUS

Hojo tells me that this Cloud has a history with Sephiroth.

SCARLET

What did he say?

RUFUS

I haven’t gotten all the details. All I know is that if Cloud runs into Sephiroth we can kill two birds with one stone.

SCARLET

(BEAT)

I’m still skeptical.

RUFUS

Trust me. Today will be a glorious day for Shinra.

EXT. SHORES – STEEL PILLAR – DAY

Cloud is seen climbing up the pillar. He is already a hundred feet up and continues to climb. After a few seconds he stops to catch his breath and looks down. His eyes widen at the height. Despite fear he continues upward.

EXT. JUNON TOWN – ELEVATOR – DAY

Barret closes the steel grated elevator doors. Both Aeris and Tifa are dressed in the Shinra uniforms.

TIFA

This won’t work.

Barret presses a button on the control panel and the elevator starts to go up.

BARRET

Yeah it will. Just don’t do anything stupid.

AERIS

Are women even allowed to serve in Shinra’s army?

RED XIII

As sex slaves, yes.

Aeris groans.

BARRET

Don’t worry. With that helmet people won’t notice anything.

A few beats; then

TIFA

What about you and Red? How will you guys find a way to the boat?

RED XIII

We’ll find a way.

BARRET

You two will have to handle Yuffie and turn her in. You’re the only two that can get by doing it. You sure you can handle her?

YUFFIE

(sarcastically)

Yeah, you sure you can handle me?

BARRET

Shut up.

TIFA

Don’t worry, we can do it.

BARRET

Good.

EXT. JUNON CITY – NORTH RUNWAYS – DAY

The elevator reaches the top and the group disembarks. They see a few SHINRA SOLDIERS patrolling.

BARRET

(seeing the guards)

Shit! Red and I will have to disappear.

He pulls out the PHS.

BARRET

(CONT.; handing the PHS to Tifa)

Here take this.

She grabs the PHS phone.

TIFA

For what?

BARRET

You have to keep in contact with Cloud until Red and I find a way aboard. Just dial ‘333’ to reach him.

TIFA

Got it.

Barret nods and he runs for cover with Red XIII.

TIFA

(pushing Yuffie forward with her rifle)

Get moving.

EXT. JUNON CITY – WEST RUNWAYS – DAY

On the west side of the runways, Cloud pulls himself up from below. He then gets up and immediately starts running toward a military barracks building off to the left.

INT. MILITARY BARRACKS – CORRIDOR – DAY

Cloud peeks from around a corner and sees the coast is clear. He casually walks down the hallway watching the television monitors on the wall. They show a military parade preparing.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4 (OS)

Hey!

Startled, Cloud looks around at the Shinra captain who just walked into the corridor. Cloud stares think he’s been caught.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

Why are you still dressed like that?

CLOUD

(loss of words)

I,…uh

The captain walks toward him.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

Late, huh?

CLOUD

…Yeah.

The captain sighs.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

You’re holding up the whole platoon. Come on and get changed.

CLOUD

Right.

The captain escorts Cloud through a door and into--

INT. MILITARY BARRACKS – LOCKEROOM – DAY

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

We have to present ourselves to president Rufus in a few minutes.

CLOUD

What?

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

Just get changed.

Cloud walks to an open locker and grabs the soldier uniform inside. He hesitates before undressing and looks at the captain.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

(jokingly)

What’s wrong? Shy?

Cloud sighs and quickly undresses. He then puts on the uniform and throws his sword and clothes in the locker.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

The helmet?

Cloud sighs again and grabs the helmet. He puts it on.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

Now how do you feel?

CLOUD

Brings back memories.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4

Yeah, yeah, it happens to the best of us. You live through a war but still feel you’re fighting. Happens to me all the time.

(BEAT)

I’ll be waiting outside.

The captain leaves. A few beats; then

CLOUD

(to himself)

I was so proud when I first put this on.

He grabs his rifle and checks the ammo. He’s got a full clip. Cloud smiles when he realizes he holds the pristine weapon he needs to kill Rufus.

SHINRA CAPTAIN #4 (OS)

Hurry up!

Cloud exits.

EXT. JUNON CITY – STREETS – DAY

The streets of Junon are crowded. Citizens line the sidewalks waiting for the parade to commence. The city itself has an old New York style to it. Among the people in the streets are Tifa and Aeris in disguise. Aeris is dragging Yuffie.

AERIS

So where do we drop her off?

TIFA

I don’t know.

AERIS

Rufus should start his speech soon right?

TIFA

(looking back at Aeris)

Hopefully, so we can get the hell out of here.

BOOM! Tifa knocks into RUDE of the Turks. Tifa staggers but Rude doesn’t budge. She stares in Rude’s eyes through his shades.

RUDE

Watch where you’re walking.

TIFA

I apologize sir.

Rude snarls and walks past. Aeris walks up to join her.

AERIS

That was close.

TIFA

You’re telling me this?

(BEAT)

Let’s go.

INT. TAVERN – DAY

The doors of a smoke filled tavern opens and Rude walks in.

BARTENDER

Hey, how you doing, Rude?

RUDE

Hi.

There at the bar are RENO, TSENG, and ELENA, the rest of the Turks. Rude walks to them and sits down.

TSENG

‘Bout time you showed up.

RUDE

Hello to you too.

(to Reno; jokingly)

Reno flips Rude off and takes sip of his drink. Rude laughs.

RUDE

(jokingly)

How you doing after your beating on the Sector 7 pillar?

RENO

Hey, we accomplished the mission. That’s all that matters.

RUDE

But you got your ass kicked by Cloud.

Reno takes another sip of his drink.

ELENA

Did you really, Reno?

RENO

How would he know? He wasn’t there.

Meanwhile a man (CIGAR MAN) is smoking a cigar and inadvertently blows the smoke in Rude’s direction. Rude simply pats the smoke away.

ELENA

You guys think it’s wise for us to be drinking?

RENO

Still a rookie.

TSENG

This place has more that five-thousand troops here. Our jobs are covered.

RUDE

Plus, Rufus gave us the night off.

The man again inadvertently blows smoke in Rude’s direction. Annoyed, Rude pats the smoke away again.

RENO

(taking out a cigarette)

I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do.

He lights the cigarette.

RENO

(CONT.)

I’m gonna find me some bitch and have a long night.

The Turks laugh.

RUDE

Yeah it’s been awhile since I last had some.

(BEAT)

How ‘bout it Elena?

Elena lets out a groan of disgust.

RUDE

Is that a ‘yes’?

ELENA

You wish.

They laugh again. Again the man blows smoke at Rude. Rude snaps back and SLAPS the man. The cigar man wallows in pain.

RUDE

Blow that fuckin’ smoke somewhere else.

TSENG

Take it easy. We got the night off.

CIGAR MAN

What the fuck’s your problem!?

Angered, Rude stands up and faces the man.

RUDE

Do you know who I am?

CIGAR MAN

Yeah I do. You’re a piece of shit who thinks he walk all over people.

Rude stares down the man.
