Guardian

About (No Spoilers)

Auron is a mysterious person with a very mystifying past.  He is one of the guardians of Yuna, and also was the guardian of the late Braska ten years back.  He is very high-ranked and considered a legend in Spira history.  Most people refer to him as Sir Auron.

Character Developments (Spoilers)

When Auron didn’t want to go back to the farplane (where everyone’s spirit rests), the true meaning behind it was that he is also an unsent person (originally dead).  Summoners such as Yuna send out dead people’s spirits, but if that doesn’t happen, they are still alive, such as Seymour.

Weapons/Armor

In this game, you can equip one weapon and one armor, and you also can change weapons on the fly during the battle, but it costs one turn. The names of the weapons/armor don’t play much of a role, but only the specific abilities it has. For example, if a weapon has something that has to do with ice, it’ll definitely have an ice attack. If an armor has something that has to do with a certain status, it’ll have protection against it. So the relative names of the weapons/armor relate to the key abilities it pertains. You can customize weapons/armor when you have Rikku in your party. Customizing them involves using certain items to get that ability added (assuming you have enough free slots). Here is the list of abilities you can add to the weapons/armor.

 Overdrives

Overdrives are the limit breaks/trances of FF X. But what’s different, is that you can set how you want the overdrive meter to charge. You can learn different ways by completing tasks such as fighting a certain amount of battles, or by healing many times. Here are the overdrive modes:

Stoic – Charges when betrothed by the foe.
Warrior – Charges when a character attacks an enemy.
Healer – Charges when a character heals.
Comrade – Charges when a party member is attacked.
Slayer – Charges when a character defeats an enemy.
Victor – Charges when a battle is complete.
Tactician – Charges when a status effect is cast on the enemy.
Hero – Charges when facing an enemy with lots of HP.
Ally – Charges when a party member has its turn.
Daredevil – Charges when a character is in critical health (yellow text).
Solo – Charges when a character is fighting alone.
Coward – Charges when a character escapes from battle.
Dancer – Charges when an enemy misses an attack on a character.
Rook – Charges when a character reflects or nullifies a magic attack from the enemy.
Sufferer – Charges when a character has a status ailment.
Defender – Charges when a character defends.
Victim – Charges when a character gets attacked when in a status ailment.
Avenger – Charges when a party member dies.

Overdrive – Bushido

Buttons appear on the screen and you must press them on time to inflict more damage. Time also affects the strength. If a button is incorrectly pressed, you have to start over again. This is reminiscent to Zell’s limit break in FF VIII.

Auron can gain overdrives by collecting more Jecht, Auron, and Braska spheres.

Dragon Fang (left, down, up, right, L1, R1, X, O) – Attacks all enemies.
Shooting Star (triangle, O, square, X, left, right, X) – Attacks one enemy, with a wipe out effect.
Banishing Blade (up, L1, down, R1, right, left, triangle) – Attacks one enemy, adds Power, Armor, Mental, and Magic Break.
Tornado (X, right, R1, left, L1, triangle) – Attacks all enemies for tons of damage.
