Balthier

Balthier is a sky pirate who roams the skies of Ivalice with his loyal companion and partner, Fran. He is known to be charismatic and charming. Balthier has his own airship, which is called the Strahl. Outside of his calm and cool demeanor, he also has a dark past with his father and the empire.
Doctor Cid is the father of Balthier and the mastermind behind the empire's weapons research project. As well, Balthier shares a close relationship with his partner Fran, whom travels alongside him throughout his sky pirate adventures.
Character Developments (Spoilers)
Behind his seemingly cool and calm self, Balthier actually hides a relatively dark past with him. He used to be a Judge under the empire and eventually left everything behind for the freedom of being a sky pirate. Balthier couldn't bear to see his father succumb to the madness and obsession behind nethicite and ran away from him. Always seeking adventure and new challenges, Balthier is caught up in the middle of the struggle for Dalmasca's freedom.
Some of the lines for his dialogue make for some pretty interesting comedy relief but beyond that, Balthier also has an important role in the storyline, especially with his relationship to Doctor Cid. Though reckless at times, Balthier knows how to play his cards right and likes to consider himself the "leading man".
