Character Developments (Spoilers)

     Vayne is willing to go against all that oppose him.  While appearing relatively mild-mannered, he is actually quite cunning and manipulative.  He kills his father and eventually takes over the throne as emperor.  In addition, he dissolves the Arcadian senate and declares himself as dictator over all of Arcadia.  He believes that the people of Dalmasca will eventually rise up in rebellion and Vayne vows to crush Dalmasca as a result.  In addition, he has the Judges and Doctor Cid under his command and has taken interest in the research of nethicite to further boost the empire's war machine and to satisfy his drive for power.

Review

     While not really a madman or a pure evil character, Vayne has some similarities with some of the more subtle villains in RPGs.  He is quite manipulative and eventually takes some clever actions in order to gain power and to put himself in a positive to crush those that oppose him.  Vayne is the main villain of FFXII and generally carries out his actions behind the scenes, rather than being at the forefront of them.
