Cecil Harvey

Class: Dark Knight, Paladin
Height: 6'
Weight: 177 lbs

About (No Spoilers)

Cecil is a character of epic proportions as the transition from an evil Knight to a heroic Paladin is one of interest and this change causes Cecil to be the most developed character in FF4 and one of the most interesting characters in the Final Fantasy series as the changes are realistic and make total sense. From commander of the evil Red Wings to a celebrated hero, Cecil undergoes very significant changes in FF4.

Major Relations

Throughout the course of FFIV, Cecil has major relations with some characters in the game. It is revealed near the end of FFIV that Golbez, who was made the new commander of the Red Wings, was actually Cecil’s brother and that while Golbez is half-lunarian, Cecil is not. Rosa also has close relations with Cecil as they are longtime friends and Rosa is Cecil’s love interest throughout the game. The Dragoon Knight Kain, is Cecil’s best friend and other than that, Cecil doesn’t really have any other major relations with the other characters in FFIV.

Character Developments (Spoilers)

Cecil has a few major character development changes throughout the course of the game which is fairly interesting. The transition from a heartless Dark Knight to a heroic Paladin is what makes Cecil an interesting character overall and his character development throughout the game is good for the most part, overall. As a Dark Knight, Cecil was considered an evil character, who was merely a pawn to King Baron, blindly following orders to the King’s liking. Even though he was a Dark Knight, he still secretly had feelings for Rosa, his longtime friend and love interest and he still remained loyal to Kain, who was his best friend. Eventually, Cecil couldn’t stand to listen to the King’s evil orders anymore and begins to oppose the King over the whole Crystal issue as Cecil believes that the Crystals shouldn’t be taken from innocent towns and Kingdoms just to benefit the King. After losing command of the Red Wings, Cecil, with the help of some people, embarks on an important journey and later on confronts his dark self and using the advice of his deceased father, Cecil manages to defeat his dark image and becomes a Paladin. Cecil and friends later on return to Baron castle and confronts the King, but they find out that the King wasn’t the King after all, it was merely an evil demon under the control of an evil force. After meeting the real King of Baron, Cecil and the others get caught in a frantic chase after the Crystals in which they must put a stop to those who plan on taking the Crystals for their own evil deeds in which they plan to conquer the world. This frantic chase eventually concludes with a showdown on the Moon, in which only the strong-willed and pure-hearted will survive and restore peace to Earth and the entire Universe.

Review

Cecil does have a couple of special commands during battle, for example, when he is a Dark Knight, he can use the “Dark” command which shoots beams out from his sword and sacrifices some HP at the same time as well. As a Paladin, Cecil can cover allies and randomly protects them from physical attacks when in danger sometimes as well. Overall, I thought Cecil’s character was well-done in FFIV and that the transition from evil to hero was excellent in the part of Square. Sometimes, it seems that Cecil has better character development then some of the characters in the most recent FF games. Either way, Cecil Harvey is a well-developed character and easily one of the most useful characters in FFIV and I liked him as a main character in FFIV overall though……

Weapons/Armor/Accessories

Most of the weapons that Cecil uses in FFIV are swords and he also can use axes as well sometimes. Most of his armor that he can equip are similar to Kain’s but mainly, Cecil can equip even the famed Genji armor. Cecil’s attack animation is fairly quick and most of his swords look exactly the same, when he is a Paladin the animation of his attacks are different from when he was a Dark Knight. Here is a list of the weapons and armor that Cecil can use and equip throughout the game:
