Bio
Cid Pollendina
Age: 54
Class: Engineer
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 203 lbs
About (No Spoilers)
Cid is the chief engineer of the Kingdom of Baron
and is the main engineer behind the construction of the airships in the Red
Wings’ air force and development as well. Cid, while serious at times,
mainly provides comedy relief throughout the game and he’s also quite crude
in a humorous kind of way. Cid is also a strong character in the game
and he’s another fairly important character in the game. It appears that
Cid sometimes overworks himself and is occasionally over-enthusiastic, sometimes
more than necessary.
Major Relations
It is unknown about Cid’s origins although he
seems to have a connection to King Baron in some way. Cid was hired as
the chief engineer of the Red Wings and from this, he probably knows King Baron
fairly well. Cid doesn’t really have many friends though, except for his
apprentices and the other people who help him work on the airship. Cid
is willing to follow Cecil’s cause after realizing that his prized work is being
used for evil and for war as well.
Character Developments
(Spoilers)
As his role as the chief engineer of Baron and
the genius behind the development, designing and construction of the Red Wings’
air force fleet, Cid doesn’t realize that his creations are being used for war
and brutality throughout the world. He later on finds out that his ships
are being used as weapons and for war after Cecil tells him about Golbez and
the Red Wings. After he learns this, Cid then decides to offer to help
out Cecil and the others on their quest to stop Golbez and he then offers Cecil
and use of his secret airship, hidden from King Baron. Cid sacrifices
himself to save Cecil and the others later on and in the underworld, he helps
upgrade the airship to Cecil’s needs and liking. Cid normally likes to
insult and joke people around for the most part, yet, at the same time he takes
his role seriously.
Review
Cid has one particular unique command in battle
which is the “Study” command. It is used to scan an enemy’s HP/MP and
sometimes it also tells you their weaknesses as well and it’s handy to use in
some situations. However, the Study command doesn’t work at all against
bosses so it’s not always wise to use all the time. While Cid doesn’t
have many weapons, he is still a formidable character for the most part and
he’s a funny and light-hearted character overall. Cid is one of my favorite
characters in FFIV, although some people may disagree with me on this one.
Take your pick.
Weapons/Armor/Accessories
Cid uses Hammers
and wrenches as weapons and like Kain and Cecil, he can equip heavy armor and
shields as well. Overall, Cid is a well-rounded character with good defense
as well as good attack power and he is helpful to the party for the most part.
That’s because his HP is quite high when he does join your party. Cid
is mainly used as a physical attacker.
