About (No Spoilers)

     Gau is a kid who was brought up in the wild as a baby.  While he has absolutely no manners and seems crazy, Gau deep down is a kind-hearted kid who just wants to help the Returners for the good of the world.  Although he can’t equip much armor and absolutely no weapons for the most part, Gau’s “Rage” attacks could become useful in certain situations.  An out of control and crazy kid, Gau mainly is a funny character who provides a nice sense of comedy and lightheartedness in the game.

Major Relations

     Besides his own father who abandoned him all those years back, Gau only has Sabin and Cyan as friends throughout the game.  Of course, while Sabin and Cyan initially believe that Gau is a nuisance early on, Gau later on manages to make friends out of Sabin and Gau and they become decent friends later on.  Kind of an odd combination but anyways, other than this, Gau doesn’t have any other major relations with the other characters in the game.

Character Developments (Spoilers)

     While Gau seems to lack when it comes to emotions and feelings as he doesn’t really have many feelings other than the sense of craziness and anger as well as limited signs of happiness.  In the early parts of the game, while it seems that Gau is a nuisance and merely a frustrating character to be around with, you later on learn about his origins.  It is revealed later on that Gau was raised on the Veldt and he had a father who abandoned him as he thought Gau was monstrous-looking.  Raised in the wild plains of the Veldt, Gau managed to look after himself and that’s where he eventually managed to bump into the party.  Gau is an interesting character, he’s more suitable for laughs and comedy-relief for the most part but if you use his “Rages” well, he can be a solid character in battle.

Review

     Gau is a weak character defense-wise and while he seems like a weak and useless character in battle, once you learn to master his most powerful rage attacks, he becomes a useful character in battles throughout the game.  Not many people use Gau though, he remains quite an unpopular character with people who play the game, however, he mainly provides comedy-relief and is more of an unstable, weird and crazy character.  I didn’t like Gau much, he’s quite a frustrating character to be around with in my view, some people like Gau though so if you like rooting for the underdog, he’s a good character to like.

Weapons/Armor

     Keep in mind that Gau can’t equip any weapons at all, instead he uses his “Rage” command to attack in battle.  While you may think that Gau is a weak character because of the lack of weaponry and armor, that is quite true but once you learn how to use his “Rages” well, he can prove to be a decent fighter.  However, Gau is still a weak character defense-wise as he is limited to equipping only light armor for the most part.
