     While Red XIII seems to be no more than a beast, he is actually quite an intelligent character.  He has the ability to speak like humans can and he remains a wise and loyal friend as well.  However, Red XIII’s past remains an uncertain mystery throughout a good portion of the game.

Major Relations

     Other than his grandfather, Bugenhagen, who isn’t even a beast for some weird reason, Red XIII also has relations with many of the elders in Cosmo Canyon who all call him by his real name “Nanaki”.  Also, Red XIII also has relations with his deceased father, Seto who sacrificed himself to protect Cosmo Canyon long ago.  Even though Red XIII sides with Cloud and the others, he mainly has strong ties with the people of Cosmo Canyon instead of the others, but he is nevertheless a kind-hearted and intelligent character that is well-respected overall.

Character Developments (Spoilers)

     Red XIII initially joins up with Cloud and the others after being rescued from a nasty Shinra experiment.  Red XIII is a loyal and trusted friend but nevertheless, he is uncertain about his own origins and past for some time until finally finding out about it.  After returning to his home in Cosmo Canyon, Red XIII learns about his father and begins to understand his origins and past.  Red XIII is an intelligent and mature character, acting years beyond his age.

Review

     As a wise and intelligent character, Red XIII is an asset to Cloud and the others with his wisdom and smarts.  He is a strong character physically and he is a determined and his personality is quite mature as well.  He is easily trusted and is a loyal ally till the very end and after uncovering his past and mysteries.

Weapons/Armor

     For the most part, Red XIII can only use hairclips and headdresses as weapons in battle.  He is a strong character in terms of physical attack, which makes him a useful ally throughout the game.  Also, he can equip armor and he is a solid fighter overall, almost as powerful as Cloud or Cid in my personal opinion.

     Red XIII has a reasonable variety of Limit Break attacks although most of them are attack-oriented and prove to be quite powerful and useful against most enemies and bosses.  Red XIII’s Limits are quite strong, in fact, probably one of the most powerful in the game other than Cloud and Cid.
