Battle System

Overview

The game manages to incorporate third-person shooting elements with some of the more common RPG aspects that we have grown used to.  This is primarily a shooting game, with Vincent having to rely on different types of guns and ammon to take down his enemies.  He can also use a close-ranged attack to dispatch enemies as well.  Through completing missions, players have the option of leveling Vincent up or exchange the EXP points into gil.  At various points, gamers can also upgrade their weapons and stock up on supplies such as potions and phoenix downs.  Players can use items within the game too, just like in RPGs.  Hit points make up your life bar as well as the ability to use magic.  Materia exists in the game and you can equip materia to your weapon.  There are only a limited amount of slots available for certain items, so you can't stock up too much.  Finally, players can use items that serve as limit breaks in which Vincent transforms into the Galian beast or even Chaos.  Otherwise, the game acts as your typical third-person shooter with targeting cross-hairs and the like.

Limit Breaks

The only way to use limit breaks is to obtain an item called "Limit Breaker".  These can be found throughout the game, or by defeating enemies.  You can even buy them at a certain stage of Dirge of Cerberus.  Once used, Vincent transforms into a beast and players can execute powerful attacks to enemies.
