Vincent Valentine

    Vincent used to be a member of the Turks and was supervising a science project for his father.  Unforseen events led to various experiments conducted on his body and eventually he was locked in a coffin within the mansion in Nibelheim for many years until found by Cloud in Final Fantasy VII.  In Dirge of Cerberus, he finds out more about his past with a woman named Lucrecia and Hojo.  He is the main character in Dirge of Cerberus and also struggles to find a true reason to live and redeem himself from the past.

Character Developments (Spoilers)

     30 years before the events of Final Fantasy VII, Vincent used to be a member of the Turks.  While overseeing his father's project, he met a woman named Lucrecia and feel deeply in love with her.  Lucrecia's life was saved by Vincent's father, who sacrified his own life when the experiments of Chaos and Omega went horribly wrong.  Lucrecia felt immense guilt over the death of Vincent's father and decided to leave Vincent.  She decided to have a relationship with Hojo instead and eventually fell pregnant.  Her unborn child was to have experiments done regarding Jenova cells and Lucrecia agreed to take part in it.  Vincent disagreed but Lucrecia went ahead anyways.  She became extremely ill during the experiment and Vincent confronted Hojo over this.  Hojo became irritated with Vincent and shot him in the stomach instead.  Hojo decided to use Vincent's body for further experiments regarding Jenova cells.  This enable Vincent to be able to transform into different monsters and Lucrecia later on used some materia to calm the effects of Chaos.  Lucrecia wanted to end her life for causing Vincent so much pain and despair, yet was unable to because of Jenova cells in her body.  She decided to trap herself with mako crystals in a cave.  Out of rage, Vincent shut himself in a coffin within the mansion of Nibelheim and Hojo eventually locked the coffin and put the key in a safe.  In Dirge of Cerberus, Vincent learns to overcome his past with Lucrecia and redeem himself as motivation for living after years of turmoil and anguish over the transformations that his body possesses and for Lucrecia.
