Squall Leonhart

     Squall is a fairly quiet person who likes to keep his feelings and emotions to himself for the most part and lacks in terms of spirit and teamwork.  He doesn’t quite act like most people his age although he is very mature and well-behaved yet he seems to take things too seriously at times.  Over the course of the game, his emotions and attitude towards things will change dramatically.

Major Relations

     Squall, while raised in an orphanage has relations with many of the other characters in the game as many people in his party have also been raised in the same orphanage when they were little as well.  But Squall does appear to have a link to Laguna and they are related in some way as well but most of all, Rinoa has the biggest impact on Squall as she has strong feelings to Squall and also, Squall cares for her later on in the game.

Character Developments (Spoilers)

     Once Squall becomes the leader of SeeD, he will undergo various missions and he later on encounters a young girl named Rinoa and then later on, he gets thrusts into an adventure that will change the way he feels and acts towards things and which the fate of the world and time depends on him and SeeD.  While Squall lacks emotion, he in fact hides them and his past is kind of tragic and sad as Squall was raised in an orphanage and he was used to taking care of himself without the help of others.  This was the main reason behind his attitude throughout most of the game and later on, he begins to think differently and learns to care and having feelings for others.

Review

     Personally, I thought Squall made an excellent main character in FF8 as he had a major character and personality change halfway through the game and that transition was good character development on Square’s part.  Full of heart and courage, Squall is not afraid of anyone or anything, he is not one to back down from a challenge, and he is used to being alone.  Squall has the best character development in the game in my view though.

Weapons

     Squall always uses his Renzokuken attack as part of his Limit Break and if timed properly, he follows up with another Limit attack, depending on his weapon.  If equipped with the right sword and if you junction his strength properly, he can possibly deal 9999 HP worth of damage per hit during the Renzokuken.  Of course, Squall’s best Limit Break attack is the Lionheart which can be extremely deadly.
