By: David Freshwater Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: the long awaited follow-up to the PlayStation classic FF Tactics. But will this game live up to it's elder? Most people think not; I however, do. The game begins in Marche's at a school, where a snowball fight is going. The fight introduces you to the basics of the game and most of the major characters, like Mewt and Ritz. Mewt, whose mother died, has an alcoholic father and is usually picked on by most kids at his school. Mewt’s role in Ivalice, is being the prince. Mewt's mother takes the role of Queen Remedi and is always by Mewt's side. Ritz, is a tomgirl that hates bullies. In Ivalice, her role is a clan leader where her best friend is a Viera named Shara. Everyone likes her in Ivalice and she does not want to go back. After the snowball fight the friends leave the school and they meet Mewt's father who got fired from his job. They decide to meet at Marche's house after Mewt picks up a book that he wants to read and he thinks it is magic, and it truly is. At Marche's house they meet Marche's handicapped brother Doned, who loves magic and would like to see the book. His role in Ivalice is a trouble maker who is no longer handicapped. They open it and see a bunch of magical creatures and items. They leave, and when Marche goes to bed his world changes from a modern land to medieval times. Marche learns soon that the land is called Ivalice, and it bears a name resemblance to Marche's town, St. Ivalice. He meets a moogle named Montblanc, who is his best friend in Ivalice. Montblanc introduces Marche to the clan and he starts doing missions. The game progresses and Marche soon realizes that it would be better for everyone to return home, because Ivalice was just Mewt's dream world. He sets out to destroy the crystals that keep the world in place, but even after destroying them, the world remains. This happens because there are still people that want it to stay. Marche realizes that he must kill Queen Remedi and get the world back. It happens and peace is restored once again........ Analysis/Ratings The graphics in FFTA are pretty astounding. The characters look cartoonish, and the battlefields will look 3D. If you equip a character with a new weapon, you will see the changes in the battlefield. The summons and spells are very nicely done. The character's portraits are extremely detailed and look great for the system's limitations. The gameplay is very deep, and customizable. In the game you basically go to pubs and do missions. There are a ton of abilities to learn and there are 34 jobs in the game total. During battle, you basically take turns moving around the field attacking the other team's members. There are 300 missions to do and you will be hooked for a long time. The missions are very hard to do, because you will need to get the missions items. The storyline is pretty childish and most people do not like it. A boy named Marche is transported to a world filled with magic and mystery and his friends do not want to leave. Soon Marche realizes that the world is just a fake, and he urges his friends to return to the normal world. Marche destroys the 5 crystals holding the world together, but because the others want to stay, the world remains. Marche kills Queen Remedi, who was ultimately holding the place together, and the world returns to normal. The sound in this game is awesome, and the music always fits in perfectly. If the place is happy and cheery, the music reflects that. If it is dark and dreary then the music is low and dark. The SFX in this game are great. From the sound of a spell being cast and to a weapon striking an enemy. The game is very fun, and will last you for at least 100 hours, as there are co-op missions, 300 missions, and secret characters to unlock. There is always something for you to do. This is by far one of the best games for the GBA and I would recommend it to anyone who likes RPGs, strategy RPGs or any adventure game. It is a true classic. Ratings (Compare
